Majalengka, W Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian canoe slalom athlete Reski Wahyuni qualified for women`s single canoe final, after she finished the semifinal round at Rentang Majalengka Dam in West Java on Thursday, with a total time record of 316.24 seconds.

Wahyuni was ranked 9th, out of 10 participants competing in the semifinal, with a timing of 216.24 plus a 100-second penalty.

The 25-year-old athlete was 23.59 seconds faster than Thailand`s Worada Chonsuk, who was in the last place with a total time of 339.83 seconds.

Canoe slalom national team coach Uyun Gunawan said he had asked Wahyuni not to force herself to pursue time in the semifinals and to save energy for the final match.

"This is to avoid events such as yesterday, when Sumita was too pumped up in the semifinal, and during the finals, she was running out of energy," he said.

Sumita Kurnia recorded a time of 124.45 seconds in the semifinal and 148.80 seconds in final round.

Meanwhile, the fastest three in women`s single canoe semifinal were the Chinese and Japanese athletes, namely Shi Chen (China), with a total time of 105.90 seconds and zero penalties; Jie Yang (China) with 110.70 seconds and a 4-second penalty; and Ren Mishima (Japan) with 122.62 seconds and zero penalty.

Indonesia has qualified for the final with seven other countries. The regulations of the Asian Canoe Confederation (ACC) allow each country to field only one athlete so that only eight countries will compete in final round.

In addition to Indonesia, China (Shi Yen), Japan (Ren Mishima), Thailand (Atcharaporn Duanglawa), Chinese Taipei (Weihan Chen), Kazakhstan (Kamilla Safina), India (Mourya Champa), and Iran (Shaghayegh Seyedyoosefi) will compete in final round.
