Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chinese and South Korean swimmers were disqualified from the 4x100 meter medley relay finals in the Asian Games 2018 due to earlier jump at the Aquatic Center of Bung Karno Stadium here on Thursday night.

The relay take-off machine installed in the swimming pool showed Zhang Yufei of China jumped 0.11 seconds earlier before preceding swimmer Shi Jinglin completed the second lap in breaststroke.

"Before the preceding swimmer touches the wall, there is tolerance time of 0.03 second for the following swimmer to jump into the pool," Asian Games swimming competition manager Suroyo said.

Ko Miso of South Korea also made the same mistake in which he jumped 0.06 second earlier before preceding swimmer An Sehyeon touched the wall exactly at 3 m8inutes, 06.26 second in the third lap.

The disqualification astonished their fans who came to watch the 4x100 meter medley relay finals. Chinese swimmers who clocked in at 3 minutes, 59.51 seconds should have finished second after Japanese swimmers who clocked in at 3 minutes, 57.73 seconds to snatch a gold medal.

South Korea almost finished third with a total time of 4 minutes, 02.33 seconds.

Since the two teams were disqualified, the silver medal went to Hong Kong who clocked in at 4 minutes, 03.15 seconds and the bronze medal went to Singapore who clocked in at 4 minutes, 09.45 seconds.

Suroyo said neither China nor South Korea has filed on objection to the disqualification. "There is no protest as the disqualification is based on the system<," he said.
