Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Rikako Ikee collected six gold medals for Japan after she set a new Asian Games record in the women's 50-m freestyle final here on Friday evening.

Ikee`s new record stands at 24.53 seconds, compared to the previous record of 24.87 seconds by Chen Xinyi in the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon.

The 18-year old athlete defeated Liu Xiang from China, who set a new world record in the women`s 50- meter backstroke at 26.98 seconds in the final round of the Asian Games 2018 on Tuesday.

With the latest victory, Ikee contributed six gold medals to her country, after winning three gold medals in the women`s 50-meter freestyle, women`s 50-meter butterfly and women`s 100- meter butterfly.

She collected two other gold medals in the women`s 4x100 meter freestyle medley and women`s 4x100 meter medley event.

In the final round of the women`s 100 butterfly event, the holder of four gold medals from the Asian Swimming Championship 2016 in Tokyo set a new Asian Games record at 56.30 seconds.
