Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chinese Taipei led group C after grabbing victories in three matches they have played in the men`s basketball group of the 2018 Asian Games.

On Thursday, Chinese Taipei defeated Qatar 83-70 at the Gelora Bung Karno Basketball Hall in Senayan, Jakarta.

The match ended the entire set of preliminary matches for men`s basketball group C of the 2018 Asian Games, which has been taking place since Aug 14.

The victory over Qatar led Chinese Taipei to the top of Group C with six points, followed by Japan in second place.

Japan qualified as runners-up after winning two victories, recovering from the defeat they suffered from Chinese Taipei in the first game.

Qatar, which started the race after defeating Hong Kong, even had to be willing to avoid being qualified for the quarter-finals due to losing in the next two games.

In the quarter-finals, which will take place on Monday (Aug 27), Chinese Taipei will face runners-up in Group B, Syria, while Japan will play against Iran.

Chinese Taipei 71 - Japan 65

Qatar 90 - Hong Kong 80

Japan 82 - Qatar 71

Chinese Taipei 98 - Hong Kong 67

Japan 88 - Hong Kong 82

Chinese Taipei 83 - Qatar 70.
