Amman (Antara/Xinhua-OANA) - Jordan on Saturday condemned Israel for arresting several employees of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Department in Jerusalem, state-run Petra new agency reported.

These employees were apprehended while conducting maintenance work in Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghunaimat.

She expressed Jordan`s rejection to this "unjustified provocative" practice, calling it "a stark violation of laws" and "an intervention" in the work of the department affiliated to Jordan.

Israelis should stop all such acts and respect international laws, Ghunaimat said, adding that the ministry has submitted an official complaint to Israel.

The Jordanian ministry will take all necessary measures to secure the release of the employees, the minister added.

Jordan oversees the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
