Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s men`s rowing team advanced to the 1,000-meter (m) canoe traditional boat race finals at the Asian Games 2018.

The host team finished first, with their best time of 4,36,839 seconds, in the semifinals at the Jakabaring Sports City of Palembang, South Sumatra, on Monday, ahead of China that came second and Thailand that stood third.

India and Hong Kong ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Judging by the results achieved in the semifinals, Indonesian traditional boat race manager Mardinal Young said the host team will face tough competition from China and Thailand to clinch a gold medal in the men`s 1,000-m canoe traditional boat race.

Indonesia will field 12 best rowers to finish first in the finals scheduled for Monday afternoon.

The 12 rowers are Saputra Dedi, Rustandi MY, Mulyana Andri Agus, Poliyansyah P, Monim Erwin David, Marjuki, Firmansyah Yuda, Arpan, Mehue Stuber Spens, Juana Medi, Faturahman MF, and Akbar Rio.
