Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian men`s Pencak Silat (martial art) athlete, Aji Bangkit Pamungkas, won a gold medal after defeating Singaporean athlete Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alauddin in the final round of the Pencak Silat event at the 18th Asian Games in 2018.

Aji made a landslide score of 5-0 in the men`s class 85 kilograms-90 kilograms, which was held at Padepokan Pencak Silat Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), or Indonesia in Miniature Park, in East Jakarta, on Monday.

With this gold medal, the Pencak Silat has contributed four gold medals for Indonesia in the 2018 Asian Games.

In the first round, the two athletes waited for each other, prompting the referee to issue a warning, resulting in both getting a deduction by one point.

Both fighters tried to maintain a safe distance, in order to avoid being hit by the opponent`s target. After the first round was over, there were not many points obtained, but Aji still won the points, namely -1 - (- 1), - 1 - (- 1), 1 - (- 1), 1 - (- 1), and -1 - (- 1).

In the second half, Aji started playing well. Aji launched the attack and managed to hit the target towards Sheik Ferdous several times.

The Singaporean athlete also tried to launch an attack. In the second round, the points gained by both of them increased compared to the first round, namely 7-4.5-3.5-0.2-1, and 7-2. Later, Aji gained the advantage in the second round.

In the third round, the two fighters tried to attack each other with a maximum force for a punch, a kick that was launched on the target.

In this third round, Aji looked calmer. Sheik Ferdous tried to defeat Aji by pulling his hand.

The referee then reprimanded Sheik Ferdous over his action, because the action was not carried out in the right way. He did not get any points. After the third round was over, the points obtained by them were not different, namely 8-5,9-7,11-9,8-8, and 14-9.
