Palembang, S Sumatra, (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s men`s rowing team failed to grab a gold medal after they unpredictably lost to Chinese Taipei in the 1,000-meter canoe traditional boat race finals.

In the finals, held at the Jakabaring Sports City (JSC) of Palembang, South Sumatra, on Monday, the host team finished second and earned the silver medal.

The bronze medal went to Korea, which came third.

Indonesian traditional boat race manager, Mardinal Young, stated that Chinese Taipei`s win came as a surprise.

He noted that the Indonesian team could beat their earlier predicted strong rivals, including China, Thailand, and Myanmar, in the semifinals earlier in the day, but they unpredictably lost to Chinese Taipei in the finals.

Despite the failure to clinch a gold medal, the Indonesia team was quite satisfied with two silver and one bronze medals gained from the canoe traditional boat race at the Asian Games 2018, he remarked.
