Jakarta (ANTARA News) - China`s cycling squad won a gold medal in the 18th Asian Games` cycling track event in the men`s 4,000-meter team pursuit race at the Jakarta International Velodrome on Tuesday.

The Chinese squad members consisted of Chaohua Xue, Liang Guo, Chenlu Qin, and Pingan Shen. They defeated Hong Kong`s Ka Yu Leung, Chung Wing Leung, Siu Wai Ko, and Ching Yin Mow. As a result, the Hong Kong team bagged the silver medal.

The bronze medal was grabbed by the Japanese squad, represented by Shogo Ichimaru, Shunsuke Imamura, Eiya Hashimoto, and Ryo Chikatani, after beating the Kazakhstan team in the final found for gaining the third best position.

Indonesia`s team, represented by Elan Riyadi, Bernard Benyamin van Aert, Nandra Eko Wahyudi, and Robin Manulang, competed in this cycling track event.

They, however, failed to get into the qualification round. As a result, they had to be satisfied with the ninth position out of the 10 teams participating in the race.

Meanwhile, heavy rains hampered the men`s skateboard street competition taking place at the Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang on Tuesday afternoon.

Due to the heavy rainfall showering the sport venue, the Asian Games committee in charge of organizing the men`s skateboard street category delayed the event twice.

The organizing committee then dried the wet venue before allowing the skateboarders to get back to continue the games.

Indonesia is hosting the Asian Games for the second time this year after Jakarta was selected as the venue for the Asian sporting event in 1962.

This year, Jakarta and Palembang are co-hosting the games from Aug 18 to Sept 2. By virtue of its hosting the 2018 games, the country aims to secure a place among the top 10 largest sporting events.

At this world`s second biggest multi-sport event after the Olympics, around 15 thousand athletes from 45 countries compete in 462 events across 40 sports, of which 32 are Olympic sports.

Indonesia has so far bagged 23 gold medals, placing it on the top four in the temporary medal tally behind China, Japan, and South Korea.
