Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The 18th Asian Games 2018 will contest eight gold medals in eight events of the athletics branch here on Wednesday.

Eleven athletes will take part in the men`s 20 kilometers walk finals. Indonesia will field Bayu Prasetyo. The fastest holder in this category is Zhen Wang of China with a time record of one hour, 19 minutes and 45 seconds. He made the record in the Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea in 2014.

The second category is the women`s 20 kilometer walk with 11 athletes taking part. Title holder of this category is Chinese Hong Liu with a time record of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 6 seconds. She set the record in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010.

In the third category, 14 athletes will compete in the men`s triple jump finals. The Asian Games record in this category is held by Chinese Zou Sixin with a jump of 17.31 meters he made in the Asian Games in Beijing, China, in 1990.

Men`s Pole valult is the fourth category in the athletics branch to be contested by 13 athletes in the finals on Wednesday. Indonesia will field two athletes, namely Teuku Tegar Abadi and Idan Richsan. This category`s highest record is held by Kazakhstan`s Igor Potapovich with a jump record of 5.65 meters he made in the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.

The fifth category to be contested on Wednesday is the women`s 200 meters run with eight athletes fighting for the gold medal at stake in the finals. Asian Games record holder in this category is Sri Lanka`s D. Darsha with a record of 22.48 seconds she made in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

The men`s 200 meters run is the sixth event in the athletics which will be contested by eight athletes in the finals on Wednesday. Femi Seun Ogunode of Qatar is the holder of the Asian Games record clocking in at 20.14 seconds in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

In the men`s discuss throw finals, Indonesia will field Rafika Putra. The Asian Games record for this category is on behalf of Ehsan Hadadi of Iran with a record of 67.99 meters he made in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, in 2010.

The eighth category of the athletics contested in the final for the gold medal is the women`s high jump where a total of 14 athletes will vie for the top place. Indonesia will be represented by Nadia Anggraini.

The Asian Games record of the high jump is held by Uzbekistan`s Svetlana Radzivil with a jump record of 1.94 meters. She made the record during the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
