Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Suffering from serious injuries while warming up, Malaysian skateboard athlete Christina Grace Lai failed to participate in the skateboard sports park final match at the 2018 Asian Games here on Wednesday.

The 13-year old athlete from Malaysia at the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) skateboard arena, was seen falling down while doing

tricks in the park number arena, which is shaped like a swimming pool without water.

Christina fell face down and couldn`t wake up again, so the competition committee quickly gave her a help by calling the paramedic team.

Christina looked very sad when she was stretched out of the arena. She covered her face with her hand. The paramedics had examined Christina in a medical tent before deciding to refer her to the Jakabaring Sport City Medical Center, using an ambulance.

"Based on initial diagnosis of the medical team here, Christina injured her hip and lower back. She was forced out of the competition, and this is sadness for me and the Malaysian team," Malaysian Chief de Mission (CDM) Deputy Singh Surendar Singh Mejor remarked at the JSC skateboarding arena here on Wednesday.

The Malaysian team is still waiting for certainty of how severe Christina`s injury was from X-ray examination.

Singh said the young skateboarder was very disappointed that she could not take part in the skateboarding competition which had only been competed for the first time at the 2018 Asian Games.
