Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of State Enterprises (BUMN) Rini Soemarno on Wednesday officially named Nicke Widyawati as the new Chief Executive of PT Pertamina after Nicke assumed the job as acting chief executive of the state-owned energy company for more than four months.

Nicke was appointed as acting chief executive of Pertamina on April, 20 this year after the dismissal of previous chief executive Elia Massa Manik.

Nicke joined Pertamina on 27 November 2017 as Human Resource Director. Later she was given additional position as Logistics, Supply Chain and Infrastructure Director.

Nicke, who was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on 25 December 1967, was former director of Corporate Planning and Strategic Procurement at the state owned electric company PLN.

She was an industrial technology graduate from the Bandung Institute of Technology and won the Master degree in Business Law from the Pajajaran University.

She was once chief executive of PT Mega Eltra, an electric contractor and subsidiary of the state-owned fertilizer company PT Pupuk Indonesia.

She has also worked for state-owned engineering company PT Rekayasa Industri in which she was business director and vice president for Corporate Strategy Unit before she moved to PLN in 2014.

As a new chief executive of Pertamina, Nicke would take part in the forming of a holding company for state-owned energy companies that would merge gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) into Pertamina as the holding with PGN one of its subsidiaries.

Minister Rini, representing the government as the shareholder, said Nicke is expected to be able to lead Pertamina to a more successful performance.

"Nicke has done big jobs in many large projects. We will push Pertamina to start work in delayed project to build more oil refineries and improve efficiency in the process of supply chains in Pertamina," the minister said.

She said Nicke also has to be able to cut import of oil by increasing domestic production in line with the instruction of President Joko Widodo.

The country has suffered deficit in its international trade on large and growing imports of crude oil and oil fuels.
