Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian canoe/kayak team of Andriyani Riska and Meni Nur were only able to clinch a bronze medal from the women`s canoe double 500 meter event here on Thursday.

In the final round in which nine teams participated, the Indonesian pair finished third behind the team from Uzbekistan that came second, and the team from China that emerged the winner.

Indonesian teams that participated in the men`s 500 meter kayak four event, women`s 500 meter kayak single, men`s 1000 meter kayak double, and men`s 1000 meter canoe double events failed to win a medal.

A total of 22 countries out of 45 countries participating in the 18th Asian Games 2028 have fielded their teams in the canoe/kayak sprint events in Palembang from Aug 29 to Sept 1.

A total of 15 gold medals are up for grabs in the canoe/kayak sprint event at the Jakabaring Rowing & Canoeing Regatta Course in Palembang, Vice President of the International Canoe Federation Thomas Konietzo stated.

Countries taking part in the event include China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgistan, South Korea and North Korea (United Korea), Macau, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tajikistan, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
