Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Not favored at the start of the boxing competition at the 2018 Asian Games, Indonesian male boxer Sunan Agung Amoragam and female boxer Huswatun Hasanah are now the cornerstone of Indonesia`s hopes of winning gold.

Despite both being aged 20, Amoragam and Hasanah are the most spectacular among the 10 national boxers in this event.

Amoragam and Hasanah will be Indonesia`s ultimate hope in the boxing semifinals at JIEXPO Kemayoran in Jakarta on Friday.

Amoragam, a male bantamweight boxer (56 kg), has mental maturity and courage despite facing Asian tiger boxers, according to National Boxing Team Coach Adi Swandana.

Meanwhile, Huswatun, the lightweight (60 kg) female boxer, is known to be persistent and effective in sending high, explosive blows.

"They just have to appear more daring in the semifinals. Tactics and mentality must be strengthened," Swandana noted.

Currently, Amoragam and Hasanah stand to win at least bronze medals, as they have qualified for the semifinals, which itself is already an achievement, the reason being that in 20 years, Indonesian boxing had yet to win medals at the second-largest multi-sport event in the world.

In this Friday`s semi-final at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Amoragam will be challenged by Uzbek boxer Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov. In the quarterfinals, Amoragam had defied the opposition of Iraqi boxer Jafar Abdulridha Al Sudani in a match that almost ended in chaos.

In the meantime, Hasanah will fight Thai boxer Sudaporn Seesondee in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Hasanah appeared aggressive by overthrowing senior Indian boxers, who had also collected medals at the Indian and Asian Championships, Pavitra.

After achieving unexpected results, Amoragam and Hasanah wanted to achieve better results, as they did not want to just settle for bronze.

"I want better results, and go to the final," Amoragam noted on Wednesday.

Hasanah is now also quite confident and aims to contribute gold to Indonesia.

"Should be better than bronze. Hopefully, it can be gold," Hasanah nicknamed Atun stated on Tuesday.
