Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Indonesia Handball Association Maj. Gen. Dody Usodo admitted that the national men`s team had failed to meet its target set for the Asian Games 2018.

"My target for the men`s team is to reach the big four, but in fact, we failed to meet the target," Usodo informed Antara here on Saturday.

He admitted that the opponent teams were too strong for Indonesia, and it only won once against Malaysia.

"We can see the reality on the field. International handball has developed further, while we have just started to grow," he added.

Meanwhile, the association did not set any target for the women`s handball team, as it had only played as a participant.

The former commander of the Wirasakti military command noted in Kupang that preparation of the athletes would be a long process and require more funding.

Currently, of the 34 provinces in Indonesia, only 20 have developed the sport branch.

The association will work closely with the local sport committee to seek potential athletes.
