Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian national Sepak Takraw team finally won a gold medal after successfully beating Japan through a fierce match in the final round of the quadrant number, with a final score of 2-1.

The men`s national team won after three sets of matches, with a score of 15-21 in the first set, 21-14 in the second set, and 21-16 in the final set in the match held at the Ranau Jakabaring Sport City Hall in Palembang on Saturday.

"We were a bit off-guard in the initial set, especially when the blocking was lacking. In the second set, I instructed the players to strengthen the opponent`s blocking, two or three (players) to block. Alhamdulillah (Thank Allah (God), it can bring positive results," the national team coach of Sepak Takraw Asry Syam remarked soon after the match.

With the last match, the national team of Sepak Takraw garnered a total of five medals comprising two bronze medals, one silver, and one gold, and another bronze won by the women`s national team from the quadrant number.

Earlier, Syafrudin, chairperson of the Indonesian Contingent in the 2018 Asian Games, expressed optimism that the Sepak Takraw national team would contribute medals at the 18th Asian Games in Palembang.
