Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The President of the Asian Olympic Council (OCA), Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, has presented prayers and greetings to the people of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara following the earthquakes that hit the area before and during the 2018 Asian Games.

"Good evening President Joko Widodo and the people of Lombok, our hearts and prayers for all of you, Amien. Indonesia, thank you very much. We love you," Sheikh Al-Sabah said while raising his hands to form a heart sign above his head when giving a remark at the Closing Ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games at Bung Karno Main Stadium, here on Sunday night.

Sheikh Al-Sabah said the rain that fell before the closing ceremony of the 18th Asian Games provided an atmosphere of emotion to the OCA officials and all participants of the multi-sport event because they had to leave Indonesia.

"The sky this night seems sad. But, we are also happy because we will return to our home countries with many memories about an extraordinary competition event," Al-Sabah said.

Asia, he added, would not forget Indonesia, including its friendly people when welcoming guests and participants of the 2018 Asian Games.

"The energy of Asia at the 18th Asian Games has been recorded as a success in history. I thank the people of Jakarta and Palembang and I declare the 2018 Asian Games closed," he said.

President Joko Widodo did not attend the closing ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games because are being in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The president said the spirit of the 2018 Asian Games was also felt in Lombok.

"The Asian Games has ended up here. But the energy and enthusiasm of Asia will never go out," the president said.
