Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fadli Zon said Indonesia is capable of hosting the 2032 Olympics by considering its great success in organizing the 18th Asian Games that various parties in Asia highly appreciated.

"I think we are capable of hosting the 2032 Olympics because the Asian Games that we have just hosted is highly appreciated by so many people across the Asian Continent," he said in a statement made available to Antara here on Tuesday.

He, however, admitted that he has not yet known exactly about whether the availability of infrastructures has been sufficient enough for organizing the Olympics in the country but Indonesia is a great nation with the fourth largest population in the world.

By having such immense capacity and successful experience in hosting the 18th Asian Games, Fadli Zon, noted politician of the Prabowo Subianto-led Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerinda), believes that Indonesia is capable of organizing the 2032 Olympics.

President Joko Widodo had hinted earlier that Indonesia plans to put forth a proposal to be a candidate to host the Olympics in 2032.

"With the experience we have in organizing the 18th Asian Games, we are confident that Indonesia is also able to host a bigger event," he told a press conference with President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach and Olympic Council of Asia President (OCA) Skeikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Saturday (1/9).

The IOC and OCA presidents were impressed by Indonesia`s success in organizing the big event of the 18th Asian Games, President Joko Widodo said.

The president revealed that their admiration was not only related to the organization but was also related to the participation of the community members and volunteers, who in large numbers, were mobilized and could be organized.

"I think this is the strong capital that we have in his opinion," he pointed out.

During the largest Asia`s sporting events that officially ended on Sunday, Indonesia bagged 31 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 43 bronze medals, making it be the top four behind China, Japan, and South Korea.

Indonesia hosted the Asian Games for the second time this year after Jakarta was selected as the venue for the quadrennial Asia`s sporting event in 1962.

This year, Jakarta and Palembang co-hosted the games from Aug 18 to Sept 2. At this world`s second-biggest multi-sports event after the Olympics, some 15 thousand athletes from 45 countries competed in 462 events across 40 sports, of which 32 were Olympic sports.

The Olympic sports were Aquatics, Athletics, Fencing, Weightlifting, Basketball, Handball, Badminton, Baseball/Softball, Cycling, Equestrian, Golf, Wrestling, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Canoeing and Kayaking, Sailing, Shooting, Modern Pentathlon, Archery, Sport Climbing, Rowing, Rugby, Gymnastics, Roller Skating, Football, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Boxing, Triathlon, and Volleyball.

The non-Olympic sports were Bowling; Bridge; Cricket; Kabaddi; Martial Arts, including Jujitsu, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Sambo, and Wushu; Mechanical Sports, such as Paragliding and Jet Skiing; Squash; and Sepak Takraw.
