Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The implementation of child-friendly cities in Indonesia was recognized by the world along with the implementation of the Colombo Plan in Surakarta, Central Java, according to Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Susana Yembise.

"The implementation of the Colombo Plan in Surakarta by raising the best experience regarding child-friendly cities is the right thing," Yembise remarked in a press release received here on Monday.

In the implementation of the Colombo Plan, themed "Sharing the Best Practices on the Implementation of Child Friendly City in Indonesia," the Government of Indonesia shares experiences in fulfilling children`s rights and protects them from violence, discrimination, exploitation, and maltreatment through child rights-based development with Child-Friendly Districts/Cities.

Indonesia`s opportunity to share that experience demonstrates that the implementation of Child-Friendly Districts/Cities is internationally recognized.

"Based on the evaluation of Decent Districts/Cities 2018, Surakarta City gets the highest or main category," Yembise explained.

The minister said that Child-Friendly District/City is a manifestation of districts and cities that have child rights-based development systems.

The system is implemented through the integration of commitments and resources of the government, community, media, and business world, which are planned in a comprehensive and sustainable manner in the form of policies, programs, and activities aimed at fulfilling the rights and special protection of children.

The Colombo Plan in Surakarta was held by the Ministry of Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection in collaboration with the Ministry of State Secretariat and Colombo Plan Secretariat on September 10-14, 2018.

Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are the 11 Colombo Plan member countries.
