Yogyakarta, (ANTARA News) - A number of ambassadors and high level representatives from foreign countries are scheduled to become speakers in the 35th General Assembly of the International Council of Women and the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations here on Thursday.

Among them are Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva, Ambassador of Canada Peter Mach Arthur, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Roya Rachmani and Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji Seleina Dikawakawayali Veisamasama.

High level representatives who also speak at the event taking place at Yogyakarta`s Grand Inna Hotel Malioboro include Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Netherlands Ferdinand Lahnstein, Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Belgium Guillame Goessens and Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Sweden Johan Hultquist.

In a press conference held last week, Ambassador Lyudmila Vorobieva confirmed her attendance and participation as one of the speakers in a session that is part of the ICW General Assembly.

"This is an important meeting that will discuss the empowerment of women as well as their role in the modern era. It is definitely an important issue," she said.

She admitted to have been asked by the Indonesian Women`s Congress (Kowani) to speak on the role of women in Russia and on her background as a woman diplomat.

Thousands of celebrated woman figures gather in the 35th General Assembly of the International Council of Women, the women organization directly affiliated with the United Nations, as well as the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations,being held in Yogyakarta on September 12-20.

The event began with the International Council of Women or ICW Board of Director Meeting from September 11 to 12, followed by the Opening of the 35th ICW General Assembly on September 13, National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations from September 13 to 14, and the plenary sessions of the General Assembly will take place from September 14 to 18.

Participants will also be visiting the Village Economic Hall, known as the Balkondes, from 18 to 19 of September, located around the Borobudur temple area in Magelang, Central Java, while the ICW`s New Board of Directors Meeting will take place on September 20.

The event is held by the ICW and the Kowani, in cooperation with the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises, in which 35 state owned companies are involved in supporting the event, including Antara News Agency.
