Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Preparations for the implementation of the third Asian Para Games has reached 95 percent completion, according to Bayu Rahadian, secretary general of the Indonesian Organizing Committee of Asian Para Games (INAPGOC) 2018.

Finishing touches to the venues and software installation were ongoing, he revealed here on Wednesday.

The finishing touches focused on offering smoother accessibility for people with disabilities to sport arenas, accommodation, and dressing rooms.

"If we could not build permanent ones, we will make temporary ones," he stated.

The INAPGOC has trained eight thousand volunteers to accompany athletes and officials participating in the Asian Para Games to be held in Jakarta on October 6-13, 2018.

The Ministry of Social Affairs helped train the volunteers and provide means of transportation that meets the standards for people with disabilities.

The Asian Para Games will involve the participation of 2,800 athletes from 41 countries, 1,800 officials, and 500 local and foreign media organizations.

As many as 18 sports to be competed in the event are basketball, volleyball, fencing, table tennis, swimming, shooting, judo, cycling, chess, weight lifting, bowling, goal ball, badminton, running, archery, boccia, handball, and tennis.

As a mark of appreciation and respect for athletes with disabilities, President Joko Widodo had earlier stated that the Asian Para Games athletes, who win medals, will be treated at par with the medalists at the previous Asian Games.
