Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has called on presidential and vice presidential candidates to align their campaign visions and missions with the medium-term national development plan 2020-2025.

"Each candidate would hopefully come up with a vision and mission in accordance with the long-term development plan," Bappenas Chief Bambang Brodjonegoro, who is also national development planning minister, stated here on Tuesday.

He noted that the agency is formulating a technocratic study of the medium-term national development plan 2020-2024, which is the last part of the long-term national development plan 2005-2025.

In the technocratic study, Bappenas has projected the average economic growth of 5.7 percent, poverty rate of 5.0-5.7 percent, unemployment rate of 4.0-4.6 percent, and gini ratio of 0.371-0.373.

For its part, he expressed hope that the presidential and vice presidential candidates, who will compete in the 2019 elections, will align their campaign visions and missions with the projections of the medium-term national development plan, and that they will not be merely campaign pledges.

"By doing so, the campaign visions and missions will not veer too far from the law and can be fulfilled or realized in the next five years," he noted.

He further revealed strategic issues that the presidential and vice presidential candidates will face in the next five years, including the effort to reduce the economy`s dependence on natural resources and slash the current account deficit.

"The risk is to handle industrialization. In the next five years, we may not directly enjoy the fruits of what we are doing now. However, the program must continue since Indonesia must settle fundamental problems," he added.
