Makassar, Sept 28 (ANTARA News) - State-owned navigation firm Airnav Indonesia for Makassar immediately sent equipment and technicians to repair the communications system at Palu`s Mutiara Sis Al Jufri airport whose tower collapsed due to an earthquake on Friday.

"Makassar`s Airnav Indonesia branch will send equipment and technicians tonight from Poso to help recover conditions at Palu airport," GM Airnav Indonesia Makassar, Novy Pantaryanto said in a press release on Friday.

As a result of the earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter Scale that rocked parts of Central Sulawesi, the aircraft control tower at the local airport was damaged.

Airnav Indonesia`s facilities suffered severe damage. Tower cabin on the fourth floor collapsed so that air traffic communication equipment was damaged.

"Currently there is no coordination with the Airnav Palu team because the cellular network was disrupted," he said.

During the earthquake, he said, there was one employee of Airnav Indonesia who was on duty in the tower became victim and suffered a broken leg, but he survived after the evacuation process.

Pantaryanto and Airnav Indonesia Makassar technicians will fly to Palu if there is a flight to help repair damaged facilities to smooth airplane traffic.

The impact of the earthquake, the flight to Palu airport became disturbed. Mutiara Sis Al Jufri Airport, Palu, was closed until 29 September at 19.20 WIB.
