Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian and Australian governments have encouraged the bilateral economic partnerships among others through an Indonesia-Australia Business Summit (IABS) which was held in Melbourne recently.

In an effort to strengthen the bilateral economic partnerships, head of the Indonesian Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, along with James Paterson, senator for the state of Victoria, Chair of the Australian Senate Finance Committee, and Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, Y. Kristiarto S. Legowo, opened an Indonesia-Australia Business Summit (IABS) in Melbourne.

This year`s business meeting was organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate Generals in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Darwin, BKPM, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Garuda Indonesia, and supported by the Government of Victoria, the Australia-Indonesia Business Council, EMR Capital, Golden Group, Asia Society, and Crown Group, according to a statement received from the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra.

In addition, the two countries have announced the completion of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) substance negotiations during the visit of Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison to Indonesia on August 31-1 September 2018.

The IABS annual business meeting has brought together Australian and Indonesian government officials, business people, academics and media, packed with at least 300 participants.

The IABS 2018 with the theme IA-CEPA: Capitalizing Partnership, Seizing Opportunities was also attended by the governors of West Sumatra Irwan Prayitno, the Maluku Said Assagaff, and the deputy governor of East Nusa Tenggara who conveyed the economic potential and opportunities in their respective regions.

On the occasion, ambassador Kristiarto Legowo also explained about the Indonesia`s economic potential, as well as development in the Government of Indonesia`s priority sectors, such as infrastructure and connectivity, energy and mining, agriculture, tourism and education.
