Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A joint team of the Jakarta Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian Police has investigated the alleged fake information on the assault of activist Ratna Sarumpaet.

"We were urged to unearth the case, and we are investigating it," Jakarta Police`s Director for Criminal Investigation Senior Commissioner Nico Afinta stated here on Wednesday.

Afinta noted that the Jakarta police had received three reports, while the Bareskrim has received one report of fabricated information on persecution of the activist.

The report has requested police investigation on the alleged baseless information under article 28 of Law No. 11 of 2008 on electronic information and transaction.

The joint team has sought evidence on the assault.

Sarumpaet claimed to be beaten up by some unknown people, resulting in facial injuries, as indicated in pictures purportedly showing her swollen eyes that were circulated on social media on Tuesday.

According to the activist, she was assaulted around Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, West Java, on Sept 21 after attending an international forum in the city.

However, the police did not find any evidence, witness, or information regarding the persecution.

In fact, the police found that Sarumpaet was not assaulted but had undergone facial plastic surgery and was hospitalized in Jakarta on Sept 21-24.
