Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Government promotes tourism cooperation for economic development with Tanzania, the Indonesian Embassy in Dar Es Salam revealed in a press release made available to Antara here on Sunday.

Indonesia continues to strive to improve economic relations with Tanzania in various fields, one of which is through tourism cooperation for economic development.

The initiation of tourism cooperation was conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Tanzania, Ratlan Pardede, during a visit to Arusha Province.

During the visit, Ambassador Ratlan met with the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) to discuss cooperation in promoting some tourist sites in Indonesia and Tanzania.

"The characteristics of complementary tourist attractions between Indonesia and Tanzania are one of the reasons Indonesia and Tanzania can work together in the field of tourism," Ambassador Ratlan said.

Arusha is one of the main tourism destinations in Tanzania as well as the gateway to the Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro.

"By having various tourist attractions and good promotion management, Indonesia can be a partner in developing Tanzania tourism," TATO Executive Secretary Sirili M Akko said.

In addition to meeting with TATO, Ambassador Ratlan also met with the representatives of Arusha Provincial Government, Arusha Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Arusha Provincial Mining Commission.

From the meeting with Arusha Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indonesian ambassador learned that there was potential to export Indonesia`s palm oil and organic fertilizer products to Arusha.

In addition to having fertile agricultural lands, Arusha Province is also an area that produces valuable minerals, including gold and tanzanite.

The economic potentials of Arusha can be an opportunity for Indonesia to enhance economic relations between the two countries.

There are several investment opportunities in Arusha, including gold mining, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development.

Tanzania is one of Indonesia`s partners in the East Africa region and non-traditional markets that have not been explored.
