Jakarta, Oct 19 (ANTARA News) - Jakarta residents urged the regional government to accelerate the completion of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project so that congestion in the capital city would be reduced and the public would have many public transportation choices.

"The Jakarta regional government should speed up the LRT development, as the traffic congestion is getting worse. Perhaps if the LRT is completed, congestion will diminish," Jakarta citizen Puji said to Antara on Friday when asked about the performance of the Anies Baswedan government after one year on October 16, 2018.

Jakarta under the leadership of Baswedan has already introduced some policies that have left people quite satisfied. However, there are still many issues to be solved, one of them being the congestion problem.

"Baswedan in the next four years should be able to solve the congestion problem and also the LRT project should be completed immediately so that congestion can be resolved," said Puji.

One of the promises of Baswedan if he was to be elected Jakarta Governor was the development of public transportation in the form of interconnection in an integrated system with settlement centers and public activity centers. He also promised to integrate transportation modes from outside Jakarta, an improved public transportation service management model and expand transportation access reach.

"Development of LRT and MRT becomes a decision that must be taken by the regional government of Jakarta in overcoming the problem of congestion. Public transport such as LRT or MRT could be the right choice for people to move about without a disaster," said Ristono, security officer at the National Monument (Monas) area.

Ristono said that regardless of the congestion, the Jakarta Governor had shut down a former prostitution place, Hotel Alexis, and also stopped a reclaimed island project.

That`s the real proof of the performance of Pak Anies with regard to Jakarta`s administration for the next four years and the planned programs can go well, Ristono said.

Rosdiana, another resident who is a cleaning service employee, said apart from development, the regional government should also pay attention to the welfare of residents.

In the Pak Anies government, the Jakarta Provincial Government should pay more attention to the small people because I feel the government is still less concerned about residents belonging to the lower layer," said Rosdiana.

She said previously the work hours lasted only eight hours with a lunch break but have now increased to 10 hours without lunch.

In line with Rosdiana, Eva, a roadside trader in Multifunction Crossing Bridge (JPM), said in one year of the Baswedan government, Jakarta had seen changes.

Ristono also hoped that Anies would demonstrate concrete efforts to overcome floods as the rainy season had begun in the Capital City.

"Let the government of Anies in the next four years work better and resolve problems such as floods and congestion, said Ristono.
