London, (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Darmin Nasution and Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov discussed several strategic programs during the 12th meeting of Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission for Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation, Moscow, Friday.

The areas of cooperation discussed at the meeting included trade, industry, investment, energy including nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, transportation and infrastructure, information technology and telecommunication, banking and finance, and aeronautics, Enjay Diana, the first secretary for information, social and cultural affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, noted in a statement made available to Antara correspondent based in London on Saturday.

In addition, the two ministers discussed cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism, science and education, health, maritime affairs, fisheries, and agriculture, Diana noted.

"I and Denis Manturov have agreed to work hard to take strategic steps to increase trade and investment in future, so that economic relations between the two countries will continue to increase," Darmin added.

Russia is one of Indonesia`s important dialog partners.

At the meeting, Darmin also underscored the importance of expanding Indonesian farm and fishery products` access to the Russian market and increasing Russia`s investment in Indonesia, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors.

Darmin, who also led the Indonesian delegation to the meeting, also stressed the need to expedite negotiations on free trade between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Joint Commission meeting is one of the mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

To intensify the cooperation, the two countries agreed at the meeting to set up three other working groups: banking and finance, maritime affairs and fisheries, and defense.

The agreements reached at the meeting are contained in the agreed minutes of the 12th session of Intergovernmental Indonesian-Russian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation signed by the two ministers.
