Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Senior Researcher at the University of Indonesia`s Community Economic Research Institute (LPEM-UI), Febrio Kacaribu, said that as an economist, he wanted political parties to offer solutions to comprehensive economic problems.

"Parties must offer economic solutions that are smart, comprehensive, and answering all questions," Kacaribu said after attending the National Seminar on Discussing the 2019 Presidential Economic Vision in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, various economic problems that occur, such as the trade balance deficit, need to be addressed by the government to will win the 2019 General Election.

Nevertheless, Kacaribu realizes that as politicians, individual political parties often put forward populist policies that can be directly accepted by prospective voters; for example, Micro Business Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) or efforts to alleviate poverty.

"This is because our voters are not dominated by educated people. So indeed, my answer would definitely be different between myself as a politician or as an economist, "he explained.

Nevertheless, Kacaribu considers that these issues also need to be raised, because they are related to people`s welfare.
