Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health (DG PKH), has distributed 1,225 Brahman Cross cattles to farmers.

The policy of providing broodstock is one of the efforts to accelerate the increase in domestic cattle population.

"We have distributed 1,225 Brahman Cross cattle to farmers. Through this effort, it is expected that there will be an increase in the share of domestic beef production and the increase of commercial scale business of cattle," said Director General of Animal Husbandry and Health, Ketut Diarmita, in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday.

In general, the total addition of sires in 2018 is targeted to be fulfilled as many as 6,000 and will be distributed to farmers in 110 districts / cities in 24 provinces which are cattle centers.

Recipients of brood cattle in 2018 are selective groups, both from providing food sources and their experience in managing broodstock. "Our target is that in 2 years maintenance has developed above 50 percent of the initial total," said I Ketut.

In an effort to increase the population, despite adding imported broods, several efforts were also made by the Ministry of Agriculture, namely accelerating the increase of cattle population through Upsus Siwab, then strengthening 7 breeding Technical Implementation Units (UPT) by producing cow / buffalo seedlings, and reduce the number of productive female cuts.

"The important and strategic thing is also done by the Government to encourage private investors to invest their capital in the livestock world on a large scale," said I Ketut.

Meanwhile, Director of Breeding and Livestock Production Sugiono stressed that the process of importing broodstock is currently carried out by several UPTs within the scope of the Directorate General of PKH.

At present the importation of broodstock has been carried out by the Baturraden Center for Superior Livestock and Forage Livestock Feed (BBPTUHPT) of 1,225.

Recipients of broodstock assistance were spread in 80 groups of farmers and 2 UPTD in 35 regencies, 5 provinces namely DI Yogyakarta, West Kalimantan, Central Java, East Java and West Java. Recipients of brood cattle are the result of verification of the Prospective Candidate Location Candidates (CPCL) conducted by a Team consisting of the hall of the Baturraden Center for Superior Livestock and Forage Livestock Feed and the relevant district / Province livestock service.

"The cows arrived in Indonesia on October 30, 2018, which had previously been carried out a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) in the country of origin," Sugiono explained.

When met separately, Sintong Hutasoit, Head of BBPTUHPT of Baturraden, said that to ensure that the cows that came to be healthy, he said that his team had reviewed the arrival of the cows in Tanjung Intan Port, Cilacap. Furthermore, the cows have also been quarantined for 7 days at the Cilacap Animal Quarantine Installation (IKH).

Based on the results of the quarantine action, the cows have been declared 100 percent healthy, their appetite is very good and do not show symptoms of animal disease, so the certificate of Animal Health (KH) 14 has been issued from IKH Cilacap.

"At present the cows have been distributed to 80 groups and 2 UPTD recipients are in good health. Today is the 7-day observation limit in groups and UPTD, so that the administrative process of the Handover Minutes to the groups and UPTD is carried out," said Sintong Hutasoit.
