"We hope that US relations with China will improve gradually, because if it is damaged, then it will affect other countries, including Indonesia," Vice President Kalla noted on the sidelines of his visit to Argentina to attend the G20 summit, Thursday afternoon local time.
The vice president said Indonesia played a role in pushing for improved US and Chinese trade relations. With an increase in relations between the two countries, the value of Indonesia`s exports will also improve.
"That is the position of Indonesia. We expect the world`s trade economy to become better. If the US and Chinese industries go down, our export value will also decline," he added.
Trade talks between the United States and China have been one of the focus areas of Vice President Kalla while attending the G20 summit as well as discussing the increasing economic linkages in the world.
The vice president expressed hope that the US-China trade war would be resolved at the G20 Summit forum.
"It is expected to be completed today. With regard to whether it can be completed today, it appears it could not as yet be determined since the ministers (represented by the finance minister) are still discussing it, and the deputy foreign ministers will also speak," he noted.
The G20 is a forum for economic cooperation followed by 19 countries, with the largest and strategic economies, in addition to EU supranational organizations.
In addition to the effort to suppress the potential of a trade war, Indonesia has also brought up several economic issues, such as the commitment of multilateral trading systems, establishment of the international tax system, enhancement of the country`s economic participation, and improvement in coordination and synergy of macroeconomic policies.
The G20 summit takes on the theme of Building Consensus for Sustainable and Fair Development, bringing three priority agenda of increasing inclusiveness and reducing gap through technology utilization, education and training investment, and fiscal policy and structural reforms.
