Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Government, through a team of lawyers led by Gooi Soon Seng, prepared a new strategy to defend Siti Aisyah, an Indonesian citizen who allegedly killed Kim Jong-nam, the brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The team of lawyers submitted a hearing, asking for all the evidence that the prosecutor had in the murder case.

"Many of the evidence and witnesses referred to in the trial and recorded by the judge have not been submitted to our lawyers," Director of Protection of Indonesian Foreign and Indonesian Legal Entities, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, noted in Bandung on Monday.

The hearing to discuss the request of Aisyah`s lawyer to submit all the evidence to the lawyer team will be held on Dec 14, 2018.

Aisyah and a Vietnamese citizen, Doan Thi Huong, were accused of killing Kim Jong-nam at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, on Feb 13, 2016.

The trial of this case began in October 2017, and until now, Aisyah and Thi Huong have pleaded not guilty.

In a court hearing on Aug 16, 2018, the judge of the High Court of Shah Alam, Malaysia, decided that the trial of the Jong-nam murder case could continue because the evidence presented by the prosecutor was considered sufficient.

During this time, Aisyah`s legal team assessed that this murder case was politically motivated. The attorney also explained that there were many different evidences and testimonies from 34 witnesses and 236 evidence presented by the prosecutor.

The lawyer considered that the prosecutor failed to prove Aisyah`s motive for carrying out the murder, because the prosecutor could not prove where Aisyah and Thi Huong got the poison for killing Jong-nam.

So far, prosecutors have also claimed to only base the case on evidence of recording CCTV cameras at airports. In fact, in the recording, there were no scenes that showed Aisyah rubbing the substance, which had been called VX nerve poison, on Jong-nam`s face.

Aisyah and Thi Huong face a death sentence if the judge declares the two women guilty of the murder of Jong-nam.
