Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), as the incumbent candidate for the presidential election next year again, has called on his teams to campaign door to door here on Saturday.

In a meeting with the regional campaign team for Sumatra`s Riau province at Prime Park Hotel, he stated that enthusiasm was needed at the moment.

He noted that merely putting up banners or posters will not produce maximum result. "People nowadays are different. Promotion is important, but it needs to be done from heart to heart," he remarked.

Jokowi believed that through a vigorous door-to-door approach, the target of 60 percent votes would be met.

"Our latest survey showed that we have reached only 42 percent, while our rivals have reached 54 percent," he noted.

The chief of the regional campaign team, Idris L, explained that the team had already formed boards at city/district levels.

"We have established a command post in Pekanbaru (the province`s capital), witnessed by members of supporting political parties," he added.

He revealed that nine political parties that support Jokowi are strong parties with militant volunteers, adding that "we have set a target of winning 60 percent of votes in the region."

Referring to the big number of Jokowi`s supporters, who could not be accommodated at the meeting room, he noted that it showed how enthusiastic they were towards Jokowi`s leadership and his reelection.

The meeting was also attended by the chief of the national campaign team, Erick Thohir; the general chairman of Golkar party, Airlangga Hartarto; and national campaign board member Moeldoko.

Jokowi would pair with chief Islamic cleric Ma`ruf Amin in the election, scheduled on April 17, to compete against former army general Prabowo Subianto who is pairing with businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate.
