Kudus, C Java, (ANTARA News) - The Directorate General of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) expressed readiness to conduct impounding work at the Logung Dam located in Tanjungrejo Village, Jekulo sub-district, Central Java Province on Tuesday.

"Logung Dam is one of 65 dams built by the Ministry of PUPR to realize national food and water security," said Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Hari Suprayogi, here on Tuesday.

The construction of the Logung Dam took around five years starting in 2014 with an implementation period of 1,460 calendar days until 2018 with a contract value of Rp620 billion. One US Dollar is around Rp14,500.

The dam has a height of 55 meters and a length of 350 and is capable of accommodating water around 20.15 million m3, with an effective volume of 13.72 million m3.

The Logung Dam was planned to be able to fulfill irrigation water needs for a potential land with a maximum of 5,296 ha consisting of existing irrigation area of 2,805 ha and irrigation development of 2,491 ha in Kudus District area and increasing rice productivity.

The dam was also aimed to meet 200 liters of raw water per second in urban and rural areas in Kudus District.
