Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Measles and rubella (MR) immunization campaign in Indonesia has recorded a coverage of 87.33 percent on an average, according to an official of the Health Ministry.

Director General of Disease Control and Prevention Anung Sugihantono stated here on Monday that the program conducted in 2017 in Java Island recorded a 100 percent coverage, while the campaign outside Java Island held in 2018 has covered 72.70 percent of all in the age group.

"Outside Java Island, 95 percent coverage was recorded in 256 districts and cities, and below 50 percent in 71 districts and cities. The lowest coverage was recorded in Aceh," Sugihantono noted.

However, not all regions have submitted the result of the campaign yet, he added.

The World Health Organization has applauded the government`s achievement despite having yet to reach the target of 95 percent national coverage of the MR immunization campaign, Sugihantono remarked.

MR immunization will be included on the basic vaccination list in the country. The government has set a 95 percent target for MR immunization by the end of 2019.
