Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News)- An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richer Scale jolted Ransiki, South Manokwari District, West Papua Province, on Thursday at 2:22 a.m. local time.

The quake`s epicenter was located at 1.50 degree southern latitude and 133.85 degree eastern longitude, 36 km west of Ransiki, South Manokwari District, West Papua Province, and at a depth of 10 kilo meter, Petrus Demon Sili, head of the Jayapura meteorology and geophysics office, said here, Thursday.

The shallow tremor did not trigger a subsequent tsunami.

Residents of Ransiki felt the earthquake at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity).
