Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Presidential candidate number 01 Joko Widodo explained the vision of Advanced Indonesia (Visi Indonesia Maju) that offers optimism for an equitable Indonesian society.

"I believe that the more advanced, democratic, and modern a country is, the better its law enforcement practices will be," Jokowi stated, in his opening statement in the first round of Presidential Debate in Jakarta`s Bidakara building, on Thursday, Jan 17.

He believed that it is not merely a matter of civil and political rights but also the fulfillment of social and economic rights.

"Hence, our choice to improve the economy is to provide access to land, access to education, access to services, access to health, access to capital, and access to development, and that is the fulfillment of the most basic human rights," Jokowi added.

He acknowledged that Indonesia still has a burden of past violations as it is not easy to solve it.

"Because of the complexity of the evidentiary law, the settlement should occur immediately after the event happened, but we are committed to completing it," Jokowi remarked.

To be able to solve it, the state must be supported by institutional reform and a law-abiding culture, he added.

"The law must be enforced indiscriminately. Strict law enforcement must be carried out through improvement of the commanders, strengthening the KPK, strengthening the synergy of KPK, Attorney General`s Office, and Police," Jokowi stressed.

Presidential candidate number 01 also committed to being vigilant against terrorism.

"This can be done through law enforcement and religious and community development," Jokowi pointed out, exceeding the three-minute limit given.

"The time is up, Pak Jokowi," moderator Ira Koesno stated, interrupting Jokowi`s sentence.
