Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Incumbent presidential candidate Joko Widodo aims to set up a national legislation center to harmonize legislation.

"We are different from Mr Prabowo and Mr Sandiaga. It is important to harmonize legislation by combining the legislation functions of BPHN (the National Law Development Agency), directorate generals, law and regulation units at ministries into a national legislation center," he said at Bidakara building here on Thursday, Jan 17.

He was responding to the reply by Prabowo-Sandi pair regarding efforts to synchronize legislation.

"This way it can be directly controlled by the president through one -stop service and will not overlap. Bylaws must be consulted with the national legislation center," he said.

He also wants to s8implify all regulations and that if they still overlap they can be revised properly.

In reply, Prabowo said his view is not different from that of Jokowi. "Admittedly, the government is responsible for harmonizing and revising legal products," he said.

Prabowo said the president is a chief law enforcement officer.

"I do not question them but in reality, they overlap. I think there should be assistance from experts to solve them immediately," he said.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) held the first round of presidential debate between the two presidential and vice presidential candidates. The theme of the first round of the presidential debate was law, human rights, corruption and terrorism.
