Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - A flash flood has damaged 11 homes in Kawaliwu, Sina Hading Village, Lewoleda Sub-district, East Flores District, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Incessant heavy rains triggered the flash flood on Thursday, East Flores District Head Antonius Gege Hadjon stated here, Friday.

"Nearly half of the Kawalimu area is flooded following rains falling from morning until afternoon," he noted.

The local disaster mitigation office has deployed officers to distribute relief aid and set up emergency tents for displaced victims.

Indonesia is currently transitioning from rainy to the dry season. In several regions, however, high precipitation still occurred and triggered flooding in West Java, East Java, Lampung, and South Sumatra Provinces, among others.

In East Java, floods have hit 13 districts since Wednesday, March 6, 2019, following incessant heavy rains that triggered several rivers to spill over their banks.

The 13 flood-affected districts are Madiun, Nganjuk, Ngawi, Magetan, Sidoarjo, Kediri, Bojonegoro, Tuban, Gresik, Pacitan, Trenggalek, Ponorogo, and Lamongan.

In West Java, floods have inundated 11 sub-districts, displaced some 1.8 thousand people, and claimed one life in Bandung District, according to the Bandung disaster mitigation office (BPBD).

Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot, and Andir were among the worst flood-affected sub-districts, Achmad Djohara, acting head of the Bandung BPBD, stated on Thursday.

The eight other sub-districts affected by flooding were Cileunyi, Rancaekek, Majalaya, Cicalengka, Cikancung, Ciparay, Katapang, and Kutawaringin.
