Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran opened the first Indonesian Corner at Ferdowsi University in the city of Mashhad, Iran.

"The establishment of the Indonesian Corner in Iran is the implementation of one of the forms of educational cooperation as well as promotion of Indonesian culture among members of the Iranian community, especially the younger generation," Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Octavino Alimudin said in a written statement, Monday.

Ambassador Alimudin noted that the Indonesian Corner not only belongs to Ferdowsi University but is a shared property that is also open to Iranian people seeking information on Indonesia.

Moreover, both Indonesian students studying at the university and those in the city of Mashhad will be actively involved in the planning and implementation of programs of the Indonesian Corner.

Earlier, a discussion on RI-Iran education cooperation kicked off the opening of the Indonesian Corner, which was attended by the Chancellor of Ferdowsi University and deans, Iranian government officials, representatives of the Khoramsar Province Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, academics, students, and the media.

Lecturer at the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Professor Syafaatun Almirzanah and Bengkulu Mayor Helmi Hasan, who were on a working visit to Iran, also attended to convey their views and offered opportunities for educational cooperation, both with Ferdowsi University and with the Iranian government, as a whole.

The discussion also covered the following Indonesian Corner programs, cooperation between universities, both general and Islamic education, including offers of educational cooperation with state public universities from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and IAIN Bengkulu.
