Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NT (ANTARA) - An earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale, jolted Southwest of Sumba District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, on Monday at 1:41 a.m. local time.

The tremor was felt by residents of Bima District in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province as a three on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale, Robert Owen Wahyu, head of the Kupang Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), stated here, Monday.

The quake's epicenter was located at 9.76 degrees southern latitude and 119.09 degrees eastern longitude, some 25 kilometers (km) southwest of Southwest Sumba, and at a depth of 10 km below sea level.

The shallow earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
