Jakarta (ANTARA) - As Indonesians in the country gear up to vote at the 2019 general elections to be held on April 17, Indonesians living abroad, too, are all set to participate in the voting process. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of Indonesia has assured everyone that the overseas election committee will maintain the utmost integrity while collecting the votes of overseas Indonesians.

"The foreign election committees are formed by Indonesian citizens living abroad. All matters relating to the general election will be conducted impartially," noted MOFA's Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection Lalu Muhammad Iqbal here on Monday.

Iqbal, who is also the vice chairman of the overseas election committee, said that MOFA is assisting overseas voters to participate in Indonesia's general election with the help of foreign election committees in every country. "The first phase of distribution has been completed. This includes the distribution of voting boxes," he said at a press briefing at Tjikini Lima Restaurant, Jakarta.

He added that the General Election Commission was now examining certain gaps in the data with regard to permanent voters.

"The permanent voter data had been confirmed last year, but now, the commission is dealing with newly added voters who have moved to other countries," Iqbal said.

Malaysia has the most number of Indonesian voters at approximately 1 million.

The overseas voting process will be held around April 8-April 14, as opposed to April 17 in Indonesia, due to the time differences in each country.
