"I need to express my appreciation toward the Indonesian U22 football team who competed in the AFF Cup and brought success to Indonesia. They remain outstanding in the midst of the PSSI 'storm' over the fixing of scores,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X, Fikri Faqih, lauded the achievements of the U22 football team who won the AFF Cup, despite the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) being in the eye of the storm following a case of alleged match-fixing.

"I need to express my appreciation toward the Indonesian U22 football team who competed in the AFF Cup and brought success to Indonesia. They remain outstanding in the midst of the PSSI 'storm' over the fixing of scores," Faqih said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission X is confident that Indonesia has superior talent across all branches of sports, especially football.

According to him, despite the criticism, the national football team still has the potential to excel.

Previously, the Indonesian Under-22 national team won the AFF U-22 Cup title after beating the Thai team 2-1 in the final match at the National Stadium, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Tuesday (26/2) night.

Indonesia's victory came following goals from Sani Rizki Fauzi and Osvaldo Ardiles Haay, who led the Red and White National Team. Thailand was initially in the lead with a goal from Saringkan Promsupa.

This is the second time Indra Sjafri has led Indonesia to victory at the AFF level, after winning the 2013 AFF U-19 Cup.
