Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo said he would receive the Young Garuda Team, which won the AFF U-22 Championship trophy.

"I will receive them tomorrow," President Jokowi said, answering questions from media persons at Wiriadinata Airport, Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Wednesday. He did not give further details about the location.

Earlier, Jokowi had termed Indonesia's victory at the AFF U-22 Championship a show of strength and harmony.

Stating that the victory symbolized the real spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity), Jokowi said on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, "The Indonesian U-22 national team players come from various regions, tribes, and religions. On the field, these differences transform into harmony and strength, which has enabled them to win the championship."

The President welcomed the results of the AFF U-22 Cup final, which saw Indonesia and Thailand battle it out on Tuesday night (26/2).

He hoped this victory would serve as an inspiration for football in the country and nationally. "I hope this victory will be the beginning of the rise and progress of Indonesian football. On behalf of my country, I congratulate the Indonesian U-22 national team!" he said.

In the final match held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Indra Sjafri's young Garuda managed to turn things around to 2-1 after previously trailing behind Thailand.

Goals by Sani Rizki Fauzi and Osvaldo Haay led the team to victory.
