Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized money from 75 individuals, following an investigation into a case of bribery involving the 2017-2018 Budget Water Supply System (SPAM) project at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR).

"Until the end of March 2019, the KPK seized money from 75 people, including 69 individuals who have returned money to the KPK," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Friday.

The confiscated money, said Febri, was allegedly received by officials at the Ministry of PUPR in rupiah—Rp. 33,466,729,500— and various other foreign currencies—481,600 US dollars, 305,312 Singapore dollars, 20,500 Australian dollars, 147,240 Hong Kong dollars and 30,825 euros.

Subsequently, 4,000 pounds, 345,712 Malaysian ringgit, 85,100 Chinese yuan, 6,775,000 Korean won, 158,470 Thai bahts, 901,000 Japanese yen, 38,000,000 Vietnamese dong, and 1,800 Israeli shekels were also received.

"The KPK suspects the rampant distribution of money to officials of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) related to the Drinking Water Supply System project," Febri said.

KPK has identified eight suspects related to the case—the givers, namely Director of PT Wijaya Kusuma Emindo (WKE) Budi Suharto (BS), Director of PT WKE Lily Sundarsih (LSU), Director of PT Tashida Sejahtera Perkasa (TSP) Irene Irma (IIR), and Director of PT TSP Yuliana Enganita Dibyo (YUL). The four are currently undergoing trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor).

The recipients have been identified as Head of Strategic SPAM Work Unit / Commitment Making Officer (PPK) Lampung Anggiat SPAM Partunggal Nahot Simaremare (ARE), Katulampa PPK SPAM Meina Woro Kustinah (MWR), Teuku Moch Nazar (TMN), and Toba SPAM PPK 1 Donny Sofyan Arifin (DSA).

Simaremare, Kustinah, Nazar, and Arifin allegedly accepted the bribes to arrange auctions related to the 2017-2018 SPAM development project in Umbulan 3-Pasuruan, Lampung, Toba 1, and Katulampa.

Two other projects include the procurement of HDPE pipes in Bekasi, and the disaster areas in Donggala, Palu, Central Sulawesi.

For the project, Simaremare received Rp350 million and 5,000 US dollars for the Lampung SPAM development, including Rp500 million for the construction of the Umbulan 3 SPAM, Pasuruan, East Java.

Kustinah received Rp1.42 billion and 22,100 Singapore dollars for the Katulampa SPAM development, Nazar received Rp2.9 billion for the procurement of HDPE pipes in Bekasi and Donggala, and Arifin got Rp170 million for the construction of Toba SPAM 1.
