If our election is direct, open, free, as well as fair and square, the event will run peacefully, and the result will be legitimate.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) urged the General Election Commission (KPU) and Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) to fulfill the mandate in the 1945 Constitution, Article 22e, that elections be held directly, publicly, freely, honestly, and fairly.

"If our election is direct, open, free, as well as fair and square, the process will be held in a peaceful manner, and legitimacy will be guaranteed in the outcome," MPR speaker Zulkifli Hasan remarked here, Tuesday.

Hasan made the remark while receiving ex-vice governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Uno at the MPR building in Jakarta.

The MPR speaker called on the KPU, Bawaslu, law enforcement apparatus, and the Election Committee to ensure that election is held in an honest and straightforward manner.

Hasan drew attention to the fact that the election lends an opportunity to Indonesians to select the most capable representatives to lead the nation ahead.

"If all goes as per plan, God willing, this election will be held legitimately and peacefully," Hasan stated.

The speaker opined that the 2019 election, scheduled on Apr 17, will chart out the way of life of the nation and state in line with the Constitution.
