Trust in the institution assigned by the state. The public must remain calm and must not be easily incited.
Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - The Riau provincial police have made a public appeal to not allow the early preliminary results, or quick counts, of Indonesia's presidential election create divisions while awaiting the General Election Commission's (KPU's) official count.

"Place your trust in the institution assigned by the state. The people should maintain calm and avoid being easily provoked," Chief of the Riau Provincial Police's Public Relations Division Senior Commissioner Sunarto emphasized on Thursday.

Sunarto has appealed to the masses to continue with their routine activities.

Sunarto is optimistic that the people would not be easily swayed by uncorroborated news or hoaxes circulating on social media and patiently await the official count by the KPU despite numerous pollsters having made public the quick vote count.

"Please continue with your day-to-day activities. Do not be triggered by baseless issues and hoaxes being spread on social media," he reiterated.

Incumbent President Joko Widodo, pairing with Ma'ruf Amin, is competing against Prabowo Subianto in the presidential election.

A quick count indicates a victory for Jokowi in the presidential election.

The 2019 contest has fielded the same candidates alike a rematch of the controversial 2014 presidential election that brought to light the country's divide, as Jokowi battled against retired general Prabowo Subianto.

This year's count of eligible voters reaches 90,779,969.
