Semarang (ANTARA) - The Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) office in Central Java is investigating 27 alleged cases of "money politics", which occurred during the cooling-off period from April 14 to 16.

"We are investigating 27 alleged cases of money politics in 15 districts and municipalities in Central Java," Coordinator of Bawaslu Office's Action Division Sri Wahyu Ananingsih said in Semarang on Thursday.

Seven of the 27 alleged cases of money politics were found in Banyumas district, four in Salatiga city, two each in Wonogiri, Batang, Boyolali and Brebes districts, and one each in Banjarnegara, Kudus, Cilacap, Demak, Kebumen, Pekalongan, Purworejo districts and Tegal city.

"The amount of money (used to bribe voters) in each district and municipality is different. Most (of the perpetrators) were legislative candidates," he said.

Some of the cases are being investigated to see if they meet formal and material requirements, while the others are being handled, he said.
