Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) and Water Resources Office deployed 598 water pumps comprising 133 mobile pumping units and 455 stationary pumping units to drain floodwaters in several parts of the capital.

The 598 water pumps were provided in 164 areas susceptible to flooding, the agency's official website "www.bpbd.jakarta.go.id" stated on Wednesday.

The public infrastructure and facility officers (PPSU) are currently deploying pumps for draining out water from inundated areas in the capital.

Furthermore, the agency has maintained coordination with personnel in flood-stricken areas for taking mitigatory steps to handle the impacts of floods and issued an early warning notice to those residing in proximity to the Ciliwung riverbank.

In a brief text message, a BPBD officer has called on the public to remain vigilant to floods when the alert level at Katulampa dam and Depok sluice in West Java was increased to 2, or Siaga.

The agency remarked that at least 17 areas in proximity to the riverbank were inundated following heavy downpour in and around Bogor, West Java, since Tuesday (Apr 23).

The deluged areas comprise urban community (RW) 01 in Pengadegan; RW 10 in Kebon Baru; RW 01 in Manggarai; RW 01, 02, 03, 05, and 08 in Cawang; RW 06 and 07 in Cililitan; RW 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08 in Kampung Melayu; and RW 07 and 11 in Bidara Cina.
