Jakarta (ANTARA) - The University of Indonesia Alumni Association (Iluni UI) has lavished praise on all the stakeholders for the successful completion of the simultaneous general election held on April 17, 2019. "The Indonesian elections 2019 were run well. The University of Indonesia Alumni Association (Iluni UI) along with UI students are keen to applaud all stakeholders for successfully holding the elections," Chairman of The University of Indonesia Alumni Association (Iluni UI) Arief Budhy Hardono said in a joint statement at the Iluni UI Secretariat, Jakarta, Wednesday.

The Iluni UI chairman was accompanied by the rector of the University of Indonesia, Prof. Muhammad Anis, the head of the University of Indonesia's Student Executive Body (BEM UI), Manik Marganamahendra, and other Iluni UI committee members.

Hardono lauded all the staffers of the KPU, Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and the Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP), as well as the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) for ensuring a smooth and safe election.

"Thank you to everyone who used their right to vote in the election, he said.

Responding to the deaths of the polling station working committee (KPPS) officers from exhaustion, he expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

More than 100 KPPS officers have died and 500 have fallen ill while carrying out their duties during last week's elections.

While the Iluni UI appealed to the Indonesian people to keep an eye on the vote counting process, Hardono called on the KPU to remain self-reliant and neutral while guaranteeing that counting is held according to the existent regulations.

In addition, people should exercise patience while waiting for April 22 to see who their president will be, he remarked.

"Whoever the winner is, we appeal to UI alumni, UI students, and the entire community to jointly promote the spirit of unity," he noted.

Meanwhile, Marganamahendra asked the KPU, Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), the police, and the military to work professionally and maintain a neutral stance.

The KPU should deliver data and facts related to the vote counting process in a transparent manner, he stated.
